Is There Any Help for Poor Women Without Children?

Question by Luna M: Is there any help for poor women without children?
I have a friend who is struggling financially. She has worked most of her life. She did not have any children. She has never had a substance abuse issue. Her crime was marrying an abusive man. Now when she needs help the system tells her she is on her own. Other than food stamps what is there? The wait for low income housing is so long she will probably never get in. She doesn’t fall into a “special category”.
BTW, I have to jobs to make ends meet.
