If you do some research on the history of it you can see cannabis was criminalized because some rich and powerful people didn’t want it competing with their business/industries, and to persecute a particular culture.
Many people in society have undiagnosed mental illness. They self medicate with alcohol and cannabis. World wide alcohol kills 2.5 million people a year, cannabis kills 0.

There are never ethical issues with what you do to yourself.
However, going contrary to what science has discovered is breathtakingly stupid.
